Collectabillia had also, in association with FlipKart, launched exclusive Sachin Tendulkar branded merchandise, consisting of digitally signed miniature bats, leather wallets, notebooks and Sachin’s personally autographed memorabilia including ‘Century of Centuries’ collection. All to make sure that you are as close to your idol as possible!

Fast and the furious. Version 40!

Whoever said or believed that being forty for an athlete is not an ideal place to be, obviously did not watch take to the court in the finals of the Mens’ Doubles at the U.S. Open. With agility of a 20- something backed by some amazing wrist action, Paes showed the world exactly how it is done- Play like a pro, age is just a number to grow! Beating the favourites to win, Bruno Soares and Alexander Peya were stunned by the sheer magic that Leander Paes and his partner Radek Stepanek brought to the court. Always considered as one of India’s best, yet underrated sportsperson, Leander Paes showed the world why age is just a number. Image Like all Bollywood pot-boilers, Paes’ career also took the dramatic route. Career coloured with controversies- CHECK! Dated a celebrity- CHECK! Overcame a life-threatening disease- CHECK! Silenced all critics by winning a major tournament: CHECK! Our man seems to have got it all! While many may not know, Paes’ is a direct descendant of one of Bengal’s best poets Michael Madhusudhan Dutt. This comes as no surprise though, because Dutt’s revolutionary spirit clearly reflects in Paes’ attitude toward tennis – Never say die. Setting an example to all those who think that only a Tendulkar or a Ryan Giggs can perform in a manner that make their ages look like jokes, Leander Paes is the man of the moment. With all the congratulatory messages coming his way, one would expect Leander Paes to bask in glory; but Mr.  Paes  is far from satisfied, he’s out there sweating it out on-court and thankfully not on the sets of a Bollywood movie!

High on Hotshots

As the curtains fell on what can be termed as one of the most watched badminton tournaments in the country ever – The Indian Badminton League. A tournament kicking-off on August 14th with 6 city-based franchisees from Hyderabad, Delhi, Lucknow, Pune, Bangalore and Mumbai, battle it out to be crowned the winners of this million-dollar badminton league.

The Hotshots from Hyderabad emerged victorious in style. Defeating the P V Sindhu-led Awadhe Warriors from Lucknow, the Hyderabad Hotshots, under the leadership of Indian badminton’s poster-girl Saina Nehwal, claimed the first glitzy Indian Badminton League trophy.

The most expensive female player in the much talked about IBL auctions, Saina lead from the front and did not disappoint. Setting strong winning examples for her fellow teammates, the young shutller displayed some excellent skills winning all of her 7 games in the tournament. That’s quite a feat, isn’t it? But it was just not her skill alone that got Hyderabad far, the victory was also the testament to the teamwork and the excellent support that the Hotshots provided to each other.

Owned by the Hyderabad-based PVP Group, the Hotshots started as favourites to win the tournament, topping the tables through the season, the Hotshots finished at the top earning 17 points from their 5 games losing only to Krrish Delhi Smashers and Bangalore-based Banga Beats. Their winning mantra, simple – Climb to the top, stay there and believe that it’s only there that you belong! Having been defeated by the Hotshots twice, in almost the same fashion, the Awadhe Warriors are a testimony to how consistently well the Hotshots have spelt heat for their opponents.

As the exciting badminton league came to a close, it was not just the Hyderabad Hotshots who had won; it was a win for the sport itself to have successfully made clear that glamour, glitz and excitement belongs to any and every sport that has dedicated athletes such as these.
